Cry Vengeance (1954). B&W. Directed by Mark Stevens. Starring: Mark Stevens, Martha Hyer New to our collection is this obscure 1954 film noir, which was shot on location in Ketchikan! But that's not the only reason I'm recommending it to our patrons. Cry Vengeance is a tough, unusual, big-hearted story of ex-San Francisco cop Vic Barron (Mark Stevens, who also directs), framed by gangsters and disfigured in the car bomb that killed his wife and child. After serving three years in San Quentin, Vic is released, and immediately, as the title suggests, cries vengeance. He goes after the man he thinks is responsible for the crime, ex-gangster Tino Morelli, who has gone legit and is hiding out in Ketchikan, Alaska, with his adorable little daughter. Barron heads to the last frontier, followed by slick, sadistic hitman Roxey, played convincingly by Skip Homeier, and his moll-with-a-heart-of-gold (and a liver of booze), Lily (Joan Vohs). Once in Ketchikan, single-minded Vic is aided by saloon owner Peggy Harding (Martha Hyer), who takes an immediate shine to the broken, scarfaced Vic, as does Morelli’s little girl. Pretty well acted all the way around, and the on-location filming in Ketchikan gives it something unique. Surprisingly touching, effective little film.
